Recently we took volleyball pictures at our studio in Stroudsburg!
Not actual game pictures because we don't have a volleyball court in our studio. But pretty cool action photos that will be used to make an incredible sports composite to hang on our client's wall.
Amy is a senior at North Warren Regional High School. Volleyball is her thing. She has been playing for about 5 years. She plays for Allegro Volleyball Club in Danville, NJ. If you ask other seniors at NWRHS who the volleyball senior is, they will name Amy. When Amy had her yearbook pictures taken last summer she and her mother checked out a sports composite that we had on display and indicated that they wanted to do something similar to illustrate her volleyball interests.
We do a fair number of photo composites at Bender Photography. Composites are made up of a number of images that show different facets of a personality. A sports composite usually shows several different action photos, includes some graphics that create more coolness, and is presented as a wall portrait. Creating a composite requires previsualization, planning, and careful execution.
The first step is the photography. Amy came dressed in her new club uniform. She also brought a couple brand new volleyballs and a net. We discussed a few different ideas beforehand, and one of them was to have the net draped over her. It was similar to a picture that we did of another senior a couple years ago that worked well as a standalone photo. It was also a good posed photo to get the session rolling and get everybody comfortable.
Once we finished photographing that idea, we moved on to the action photos. That's where I learned a lot about volleyball. Amy's position is "Libero." A libero is a defensive specialist that performs a lot of digs and generally keeps the ball in play to keep a really alive. It requires specific stances to prepare for digs. So we shot some of them. And we shot a number of other poses. All in all we shot for over an hour and captured 195 images.
Once we felt we had enough, we went through and picked out the best images. There are over 40 of them. From those 40 we will begin to create a composite for Amy. That will be the subject of another blog, though. But I put a teaser image on this blog entry to show where we started. Stay tuned for more...
