Update... Since this blog was first posted the Dreher Agency added a new employee. Using the system discussed below we easily dropped the newest person into the composition without having all of the rest of the staff return to be rephotographed. Check out the new picture with the new face.
Bender Photography has been creating Business Portraits in the Poconos for years. Realtors, Insurance professionals, Lawyers, and other businessmen have chosen us to take their portraits. And while professional business pictures have always been important, the we we do things has evolved pretty significantly over the years.
While it is easier than ever to take pictures, one must resist the urge to do their own business portraits. Many people will go to great lengths to create a nice business space, dress appropriately for business and do a lot of other things to make their business attractive. But then they will spoil it by having a friend with a good camera take their business pictures. The results are usually very amateur looking and do nothing to present the business's most valuable asset in a positive light.
Good portrait photography requires much more than a decent camera. An experienced photographer knows the proper lens to use to flatter their subject. A professional photographer knows the proper angle to hide a double chin. An expert photographer can identify their subject's good side. And master photographers know how to place light to slim a round face or make a narrow face look fuller. All of these things come with training and experience.
Nowadays businesses need to make their portraits work harder, too. Recently we did business portraits for the Dreher Insurance Agency. They needed the typical head shots of their agents and support personal for their website. But I proposed that we shoot the portraits in a different way to make them work harder.
Instead of shooting against a standard traditional background, we photographed against a specially designed "whitescreen" to create images that are easily transformed for a variety of purposes. Whitescreen is a step beyond greenscreen technology, which many people are familiar with. It creates a cleaner look than greenscreen. We also shot a variety of poses in order to make group composites. So we can create group photos without everyone being in one place at one time. It also allows for extreme versatility if a person leaves the company or if a new employee is added to the group.
Check out the pictures and the looks that we can create.

Check out the composite below. If one of the Dreher staff leaves, it is easy to drop them out of the composite and rearrange for a different composition. When a new person is hired, there is no need to photograph the entire group again, just the newest hire. It all saves time and money.
And those are some of the of the reasons you hire professional photographer for your business portraits.
